How do you handle worry?

Sometimes we start worrying about things before we even know what they are about. WE don’t know if they are big concerns or now. WE let concerns take over as worry just overwhelms us. We can let worry become dominant, or we can let God be dominant.

We have a choice to make. We can let worry get the best of us or we can have faith and put it all in God’s hands. If you give to God, faith means that you can sit back and let God handle your problems. Worry is lock being in a rocking chair, you are moving back and forth but you are going nowhere. It’s unproductive. How are you handling your worry and stress?

As a child, I was always worried and stressed out. It was normal for me. If I was not stressing about my next meal, I was stressed out about my mother getting arrested and being incarcerated again. I worried about my baby brother daily. If I did not see him with my own eyes, I feared for his life. I was always worried that drug dealers or gangs were going to kidnap my little brother. I was always worried about losing him. He lived to the age of twenty-nine before he passed away. The things I worried about as a child, mostly never came to be.

When worry and stress sets in, we need to come to the feet of Jesus. We need to bring all that we are worried about to our Lord. I learned this when I was around age fifteen. My mother wanted me to travel down to Austin with her. I knew that I could not be on the streets with my mother if I wanted a chance at having a good life. I was worried about standing up to my mother but I knew that God was with me. I told my mother that I was not going with her and she was very upset. I stood my ground and my mother left for Austin without me. That was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was at peace and rest with the lord.

We must turn worry into worship. We need to make a few declarations. “Father I thank you that no weapon formed against me will prosper. Thank you that your angels are watching over me. Thank you for your blessings and for watching over me. Thank you for allowing me to get to this point in life. I appreciate where I am. Thank you for delivering me. Thank you for being bigger than my problems. I praise you and I thank you for your mercy and grace.”

Worry weighs us down and makes us unproductive. You have to run with purpose and worry stops you from doing that. Your purpose must be more powerful than your worry. When you walk out, be bold and walk with confidence for God is looking out for you!
